A Day In The Life: Resurrecting the From The Writing Nook Blog

It’s been a while since I’ve posted to From The Writing Nook but if you follow me on social media, you’ve already found out why. For those not privy to the little announcement I made the other day (and the mention of said news that appeared in my most recent post, Writing With Postpartum Depression and Anxiety), I’m expecting my second child!
The news is obviously exciting and has kept me incredibly busy. Between beginning the journey of my son’s toddler years, keeping the Inklings Scribbles going every week, transitioning to school, remaining dedicated to my WIP, discovering my second pregnancy and submitting to contests here and there—I had to let my social media platform take the lack of attention hit. Updating this blog and investing more back into my social media platform’s been on the brain though, so it must mean it’s time to rise it from the grave and keep the person behind K.M. Sokulski relevant.
If we’re being technical, yes I did that with my latest blog post but that one covered a rather serious topic so I’ll just proclaim my official return here. This post, rest assured, is more than just me yelling at the internet “I’m still alive, functioning and have another kiddo on the way!” I have some announcements and updates to share about this blog, my writing and future projects I have planned in the future. Let’s start off with the work that never stopped even with my absence.

Writing spaces online and in person are essential for any author and I’ve poured my heart and soul into this particular one. Give Inklings Scribbles a read and add another creative space to your toolbox. You won’t regret it!
Second order of business: here’s where I mention the blog post that proceeded this one. Part of my absence from social media had to do entirely with struggles many new mothers all over the world go through. It’s been a journey in itself working through my own bout of postpartum depression and anxiety and I delved into that topic as part of my latest post for my Maternal Writing Advice series. Check it out below if you, or someone you know, may be going through a similar experience and are looking for perspective. I wrote the post because finding someone else’s perspective outside of a Redditt chat was difficult to say the least.
A little while back, I submitted a short story to a dialogue-only short story contest on FanStory and the contest submission date is almost over! So here I more than eagerly await judges to review my entry, Mythical Mischief Hotline and give me the feedback I need to keep developing my skills as a writer. I had such a blast writing this little modern, urban-fantasy radio show that I’m considering writing an online series! Where and when this series will appear is still in the works, but even budding ideas are worth mentioning so here I go pitching one in a blog post. If you’re up for a quick read and willing to offer an opinion, let me know if you’d be interested!
On the topic of this contest entry, the contest itself—and others I’m planning to submit writing to are located on FanStory.com! There's one more writing platform I plan to join online for stories of a different kind, but I'll hold off that announcement until I've got something on there for you to read. In the meantime, keep an eye out for more announcement from yours truly to continue follow my writing journey as I continue pushing for progress on my wordy little path.
Speaking of progress, I've submitted another short story! Writing contests come and go and as of today, August 28th, 2026, I submitted another short story to an anthology contest! This contest from Dragon Soul Press is for an anthology titled, Once Upon A Tale and asked authors of every level to submit a rewrite of a fairy tale of their choosing. There’s plenty to choose from but I opted for a unique option. In a world where I fully expect avid writers to write a twist on famous stories like Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, I opted for a more unique option. A story both popular media and the last several decades of curating stories has associated with the classics.
I went with a horror and romantasy rewrite of Swan Lake.
Obvious choice, I know. I choose to believe the existence of Don Bluth’s 1994 film, The Swan Princess and that the immensely popular ballet feeling like a classic fairytale will justify my entry. Here’s hoping they feel the same way and I manage yet another publication under my belt as the work on my current WIP continues.
No doubt I’ll come up with more announcements as the year goes on, but I’m pretty excited about what I’ve managed to accomplish and kicked-off so far. With my side projects submitted, I can’t wait to get back to writing more on this little blog of mine and delve into the ideas doing so inspires. Expect more to come, keep up with me on my social media and writing platforms to never miss another post!
