K. M. Sokulski

K.M. Sokulski A.K.A. Karina Michele Sokulski writes stories about bravery, humanity, and monstrosities. Karina graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and minored in history (A.K.A. historical tea-spilled gossip). While Karina always had a love for the most complex, fantastical, horrifying, and tragic of stories she didn’t seriously consider publishing her work until she interned at her first publishing house. Karina kicked off her writing career by publishing her first ever short story, Shoes, in The Barker’s Voice: A Journal of Arts & Letters in March of 2016. Later in 2024 she published her latest short story, Jexa, in the Houston Writers Guild’s anthology, Journey Into Time. Thanks in no small part to her fabulous critique group, Karina is currently working on her first fantasy and horror novel series. Karina hails from Katy, Texas where

she lives happily married with the love of her life, a deeply fabulous cat, an exceptionally affectionate dog, and her startlingly photogenic first child.

In more casual terms...

Hello, I’m Karina! I’m an avid gamer, mama, reader and writer. Nothing excites me more than a good story, great characters, open-minded thinking and refreshing ideas across all mediums. There’s inspiration everywhere and I love learning from creatives of all cultures, minds and opinions. Horror movie marathons with my little sister, lo-fi with a spot of tea, my endless reading list and powering through survival horror video games on the weekend are how I both relax and work out my creative brain.

I’m the kid in school who grew up with severe ADHD, dysgraphia and all the nay sayers that came with them that constantly reminded me: “English isn’t going to be your best subject,” “it’s ok that writing isn’t going to be your strong suit.” I got so sick and tired of everyone telling me that as I nerded out most of my preteen years confronting my writing challenges through the written art of online fanfiction to prove them all wrong! In doing so, I got 4’s on my essays and making no less than an A+ in every English class I ever took. Why? Because I love writing! I have stories to tell, so much so that even as a little tyke I couldn’t stop coming up with them—which, yes, lead to oodles of trouble. Even so, my creative brain paired with my ADHD’s obsessive compulsive disorder’s set me on the determined path to publish my writing and do nothing else. So why fight it?

I couldn’t be happier to be on this path and welcome any and all who are coming along for the ride! Follow me on Amazon and social media to stalk my latest publications, take a look at what I already have out there, or just shoot me an email if you’re wanting to connect. Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet and if you’re a writer yourself: yes your ideas are great, yes you’re the only one who can tell your story, just remember that taking your grains of salt at are what’s going to get your work to become the best possible version of itself that it can be.
